We are pleased to announce that we have selected an international development organisation, Transaid as our chosen charity. We are proud to partner with Transaid as a Corporate Member of the charity and are really looking forward to supporting the organisation as they work towards achieving sustainable, accessible and safe transport.
Originally founded by Save the Children, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, Transaid believe in empowering people to develop the skills they need to transform their own lives. The organisation also wholeheartedly believes that every driver deserves the right to leave for a day’s work without being burdened by the fear that they may not return home due to lack of training, dangerous vehicles or inadequate roads. Not only that, the charity feels, quite rightly, that every family should have access to vital healthcare.
Transaid works to make their mission and beliefs a reality by utilising the knowledge of their shared network of governments and corporate members and partners, operating in over 23 countries to improve road safety, driver training and make access to better quality health care more widely available.
Just one example of the brilliant work Transaid do is their MAMaZ Against Malaria project in Zambia’s Serenje district. The purpose of the project was to combat the sad statistic that every 2 minutes, a child under the age of 5 dies as the result of malaria. Children are one of the most vulnerable groups affected by the disease and a disproportionate number of child victims live in Africa.
Transaid has worked to improve timely access to healthcare and suitable forms of transport, including bicycle ambulances. The result? The organisation has achieved a 96% reduction in child deaths all thanks to quicker access to healthcare and improved transport.
Fortunately, Transaid is now working towards scaling up the successful project to reach a population of 225,000 people, across five rural districts in rural Zambia!
As a proud Transaid Corporate Member, we will be proactively encouraging our staff members at all levels to take part in a diverse range of fundraising events, the proceeds of which will go to the charity and their noble cause. We will also be supporting organisation in other ways, by contributing our expertise in the transport and logistics sector to help the charity fulfil their goals of improving commercial driving standards and ensuring people in sub-Saharan Africa have the improved access to healthcare that they deserve.
Our Director, Neil Daniells [pictured], explained why Prolog was keen to become involved with Transaid:
“Transaid is an incredible organisation that undertakes life-saving projects across Africa in the logistics sector, and corporate membership was a great opportunity for us to get involved in the fantastic work they do.
“We wanted to support an organisation closely associated with our own industry, and Transaid ticked every box. There’s real excitement within our team for what we can help Transaid achieve.”
There are currently 36 commercial partners who are part of Transaid’s flagship Corporate Membership scheme. Being a member means a company can contribute their time, resources and expertise whilst employees benefit from rewarding and exclusive volunteering and engagement opportunities. Corporate Member activities on behalf of Transaid can include team members working on exciting secondments overseas for periods ranging from a week to up to six months.
We’re excited to help Transaid deliver improved health care access and road safety in the coming months.
